So-called “American Taliban” John Walker Lindh to be released

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO) – A man known as the “American Taliban” is set to be released from federal prison in Indiana Thursday.

In 2001, John Walker Lindh pleaded guilty to fighting for the Taliban after the attacks on 9-11.

Lindh was arrested in Afghanistan during the U.S. invasion and was later sentenced to 20 years behind bars.

So far, he’s served a little more than 17 years in the Terre Haute Federal Prison.

Lindh is now 38-years-old.
