Sobering center opens in Grants Pass

Grants Pass, Ore. — After months of delay, the Grants Pass Sobering Center was finally up and running on Tuesday.

Members of the Grants Pass City Council, along with State Representative Duane Stark, held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the facility this morning.

The sobering center will house up to twelve people at a time and will serve as a more effective alternative for those taken to jail or hospital for being under the influence.

Sobering Center Board of Directors member Lily Morgan said, “People can be brought here that are under the influence and can’t make the best decisions for themselves, or are a danger to others, and they can get sober and be referred to services.”

The sobering center, which is the 4th in Oregon, will be open 24-hours a day and employ eight staff members.
