Students get special demonstration from robot; school gets cleaning

Medford, Ore. — Science students at St. Mary’s got a special demonstration Wednesday from a robot named “Jax.”

He’s a germ zapping robot by the company Xenex and came all the way from Seattle. The robot disinfects surfaces with an ultraviolet light that’s 25-thousand times brighter than the sun, essentially melting germs.

They’re used in 300 hospitals around the country and were also used by an airline during the ebola outbreak.

“We’re connected to Xenex through a friend of the school who offered to come down and provide this service to us,” Vice Principal Chris Johnson said. “One of the things we’re concerned about is the safety of our employees and our students and to be able to take advantage of this technology was a great opportunity for us.”

Johnson said it was perfect timing for the students since they’re currently studying electromagnetic light.
