Surveillance video leads to arrest

0310 mpd theftMedford, Ore. – Medford Police have caught an alleged thief thanks to surveillance video.

Police say that a Stihl chainsaw, valued at $350, was stolen from the back of a parked pickup truck near the Purple Parrot on Stewart Avenue.
According to officers, they watched surveillance video to identify a possible suspect, and began checking Purple Parrots looking for him. About four hours later, an officer spotted the suspect playing at a poker machine at the W. Main Street Purple Parrot Location.

Police arrested 50-year-old Jose Lariz for the chainsaw theft. While he was being booked in jail, deputies found heroin on him. The chainsaw was not recovered.

Police say this type of situation seems to happen every day. They ask the public to do your best to secure your house and possessions, and to consider buying a security camera.
