Suspicious man prompts high school lock-in

UPDATE (2/8/17 1:13 p.m.)- The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office requested a lock-in at Illinois Valley High School Wednesday after it received a complaint of a man with a knife in his back pocket on the school’s campus.

Two Oregon State Police detectives were in the area. When they arrived, they found the man and detained him.

Josephine County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene a short while later. They questioned the man and took him into custody on a peace officer’s mental hold. The man was taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital for evaluation.

Cave Junction, Ore.- Illinois Valley High School put lock in procedures into place Wednesday morning. The lock-in lasted approximately half an hour.

Campus leaders say they put the lock-in in place after a suspicious man was found on campus. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the school and took the man into custody.
