‘Sweet and delicious’ honey festival entices visitors

ASHLAND, Ore.– The fifth annual Bee Weekend, organized by the Cascade Girl Organization, wrapped up this weekend in Ashland after providing visitors with the chance to learn more about honey bees and local honey producers.

Held over two days, Saturday was the main event with hundreds of people coming out the Ashland Springs Hotel and the Ashland Elks Lodge across the street according to organizers.

Visitors were able to enjoy honey tasting classes and speakers who discussed the importance of honey bees.

“Honey interests almost everybody. It’s delicious,” said Sharon Schmidt, director of Cascade Girl Organization. “Bees are the only insects that provide a food that humans eat which is really kind of cool and so they illicit a lot of interest.”

On Sunday, attendees were invited to a concert held at Grizzly Peak Winery to enjoy music and raise money for the organization to go towards next years festival.

Schmidt says the festival will return sometime next April or May to hopefully avoid the fire season.
