Texas school defends “cat intestine jump rope” lesson

San Antonio, Tex. (WOAI) — A San Antonio, Texas high school is defending a science lesson during which students used cat intestines as a jump rope.

In video obtained from a whistleblower by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Churchill High School juniors and seniors are seen jumping rope with cat intestines. There’s a second video showing a dissected cat and other students holding a cat’s insides.

“It does looks bad,” 18-year-old Churchill senior Ashlei Walsh says she was inside the classroom that day. She says the video was taken out of context. “It’s really educational. It wasn’t just for fun or any of that.”

“This particular teacher actually participated in this same lesson at Texas A&M,” explained school district spokeswoman Aubrey Chancellor.

She says the lesson meant no disrespect.
