Tree brings down live wire; winds to blame

fallen treeMedford, Ore. — A live electrical wire hanging across a residential Medford street after strong winds brought down a large tree. First responders blocked off the intersection of 9th and Ashland Avenue as they waited for power crews to arrive.

Medford Fire & Rescue says when the tree fell it took an entire pole and power line with it.

“Public safety is our number one concern,” Engineer Rob Wright says, “so we isolated the area and made the residents aware of the problem with the power line being down and it was a hot power line, the power didn’t shut off automatically.”

No one was injured and no homes were damaged. Traffic was diverted for a few hours while crews cleared the branches and re-strung the line.
