Trump backlash grows

NC_campaign160801_1500x845(NBC News) — Donald Trump is fighting a battle against some military families Monday, as parents of fallen US soldiers demand an apology for his feud with the parents of a decorated US army captain.

Khizr Khan, father of Capt. Humayun Khan, spoke out against Trump at the DNC last week, and as Trump continues to fire back and criticize Khan’s family, backlash grows.

The head of the VFW, the nation’s largest veterans group, with whom Trump appeared recently, called the comments “out of bounds” Monday.

17 gold-star military families demanded an apology, writing, “This goes beyond politics. It is about a sense of decency.”

“Our gold star families have made a sacrifice that most of us can’t even begin to imagine. They are the very best of our country,” President Obama said.

Trump campaign adviser Sam Clovis says the Khans opened themselves to criticism by appearing on stage.
