Trump departs Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC News) — Now former President Donald J. Trump departed Washington, D.C. Wednesday, hours ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

Mr. Trump’s refusal to attend the inauguration of his successor breaks a tradition going back more than 150 years.

Speaking during a farewell ceremony at Joint Base Andrews before boarding Air Force One for the flight to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, President Trump said “I wish the new administration great luck and great success,” but did not mention President-elect Biden by name.
