U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia dead, Wyden reacts

Shafter, Texas — Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has died. According to the San Antonio news-express the 79-year old Justice apparently died of natural causes while visiting a luxury resort in west Texas.

Scalia was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986, and has been the senior member of the court for several years. On Saturday, Senator Ron Wyden expressed his sympathies for the family.

“This must be a very very painful shock to the family this afternoon, and certainly I extend my condolences to them,” Senator Wyden said. “This is such an important position, I just want it understood that in the days ahead, discussions with respect to who might succeed Justice Scalia should be handled with the dignity that this position warrants.”

Justice Scalia was born in Trenton, New Jersey. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, nine children and more than 30 grandchildren.
