Cleveland Police: Leave guns at home

NC_rncguns0718_1500x845Cleveland, Ohio (WKYC) — Law enforcement in Cleveland are on alert after six police officers were shot in an ambush in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Sunday.

The recent attack has added to an already heightened sense of anxiety and caused the President Of The Cleveland Police Union to make a special request for people to leave their guns at home, in an attempt to ease some tension.

He asked the governor to suspend open carry in Cleveland this week, but he can not.

Members of Northeast Ohio Carry made a point on Public Square, explaining their need to exercise their second amendment right.

They say they wanted to make their point Sunday, a day before the RNC actually started, because they understood police concerns.

However, other groups have stated that they will open carry during protests scheduled for later this week.

Officers from Utah, Montana and California said it’s not easy to be law enforcement in this climate and the heightened awareness is only intensified when officers are targeted.

All over the city were signs that the public understands and appreciates those protecting Cleveland.
