(NBC News) In cities across the country Tuesday fast food workers took to the streets, lobbying for an increase in the minimum wage.
The nationwide protests come less than a year before the 2016 presidential election, and the fast food workers are trying to flex their political muscles.
Protest organizers estimate 64-million U.S. workers make less than $15 dollars an hour.
The federal minimum wage is now $7.25 an hour, though some cities and states have enacted higher minimums.
