Louisville welcomes refugees

11.28 LOUISVILLE REFUGEES(WAVE) Louisville, Kentucky’s Mayor Greg Fischer and city employees held a rally Tuesday to promote compassion toward refugees during a time of tension and fear within the United States.

Hundreds of community members gathered with candlelight to show their support for countries around the world that have been victims of terrorist attacks.

Fischer put his support behind Kentucky’s refuge plan said Louisville can remain a safe city but continue to welcome refugees.

“We are not a city of hatred and intolerance. We are both a city of safety and compassion,” Fischer said, “these refugees make the heart wrenching decision to give up everything they know, for an uncertain future in a foreign land because it’s the only choice they have left.”
