Train slams into New Jersey station

nc_train110929_1500x845Hoboken, N.J. (NBC News) — At least one person is dead and dozens more injured after a commuter train crashed directly into a Hoboken, New Jersey transit station Thursday morning.

The accident occurred during the morning rush hour.

The train is used by hundreds of commuters who travel back and forth daily from from New Jersey to New York City.

One of the busiest terminals in the New York City area, the station suffered major damage.  Emergency crews rushed to the scene the help the injured, many of whom are said to be in critical condition.

According to a passenger most of the injuries were centered in the first car.

“People were getting out, there definitely people who were injured. I saw people with gashed heads and blood everywhere,” said Steve Mesiano.

Early reports indicate the train ran through the bumper stop at the end of the track and finally stopped between the stations waiting area and platform.
