Vigil held for family killed in Oregon crash

TACOMA, Wash (KCPQ/CNN) – A candlelight vigil in Tacoma, Washington remembered the victims killed in a head-on crash.

Seven people died Monday morning on their way to Las Vegas for a vacation. The tragedy is what brought a couple hundred people to this park in Tacoma…

Louis Johnson is a family member of the victims. He said, “It makes it hard because I want to question it, but I can’t questions this. I can’t question this.”

They came to honor the young lives lost in Monday’s car accident outside of Burns, Oregon.

29-year-old Erika Boquet was behind the wheel with her 3 young children.

They were heading to Las Vegas with her best friend, 28-year-old Kyla Brown and another relative for a family vacation when another driver veered into their lane killing himself and all 7 in Boquet`s car.

Her friend, Channal Waters, said, “That’s one thing that Kyla was, was a good mom, and that’s one thing that Erika was a great mom too.”

The two were driven to make a difference in Tacoma and teach their children about giving back.

Johnson said, “I watched them build and grow and be great women and great kids.”

The impact they made on this community is what their family’s say inspires them to stay strong

Johnson continued, “Let’s overcome anything that was holding you back. Because they was doing, I’m gonna testify they was doing that.”

Lighting candles for these lives lost served as a reminder that all lives are precious.

“I know right now I got 7 people to live for,” Johnson said. “It’s gonna be really hard, really hard.” And to cherish the time you have together. “Take this moment to understand and love each other.”
