Visible smoke from controlled burns expected

0510 ashland smokeJackson County, Ore. – Smoke from controlled burns may be visible across the Rogue Valley starting on Thursday.

The U.S. Forest Service said that smoke from the prescirbed burns will likely be seen by people in Medford, Phoenix, Talent, Ashland, and the Applegate Valley.

One burn will take place between Anderson Creek Road and Holton Creek Road outside of Talent. Another will be on the back side of Anderson Butte. A third burn will take place in Star Gulch near Upper Applegate Road.

According to the USFS, the prescribed burns are intended to reduce fuel hazards in the event of a wildfire.

In addition to the BLM burns, the Ashland Prescribed Fire Training Exchange will be burning on private land in the Greensprings area on Thursday.
