Widespread internet outage reported

San Francisco, Calif. – Did you have internet problems today? You’re not alone.

Parts of Amazon Web Services, the nation’s largest cloud computing company, went down Tuesday.

The outage affected millions of companies, according to a report by USA Today.

“This is a pretty big outage,” said analyst Dave Bartoletti. “AWS had not had a lot of outages and when they happen, they’re famous. People still talk about the one in September of 2015 that lasted five hours.”

According to USA Today, Amazon’s S3 storage system began having problems around 12:45 p.m. ET.

Entire websites rarely go down with this type of outage, but parts of them may take a long time to load, or not load at all.

Amazon is working on the problem.

Bartoletti said if the outage continues past three hours, “we’ll start seeing people flip out.”
