Wife dies after husband loses control of car on I-5

Ashland, Ore.– A deadly roll-over on Interstate Five at the Siskiyou Pass. It’s a stretch of I-5 where there have been four accidents in just two days.

The driver of a Toyota pickup truck lost control. Sadly his wife died in the crash. It happened at 4:30 Monday evening near the mile marker six exit on northbound I-5. OSP said a man and his wife from California were driving on what’s known as the “Callahan Curve” and ended up on the grass near the off ramp.

“It’s a sweeping right hand curve. It’s a 50 MPH curve. Over the years we’ve had a fair amount of crashes there. A lot of the time we’ll get them in the winter time with the snow and the ice,” said Sgt. Jeff Proulx with Oregon State Police.

The husband whose name has not been released was not hurt. OSP does not believe alcohol, drugs, or the weather played a roll.

But they are trying to determine if speeding may have played a role.
