Wildfire reported near Gold Hill

UPDATE (10:38 P.M.) — The Ramsey Canyon fire has burned around 600 acres and is threatening over 200 homes. Level 3 and Level 2 evacuations are in effect for homes on East Evans Creek Road, Antioch Road, Meadows Road, and Ramsey Road.

The Red Cross has set up an evacuation shelter at Hanby Middle School in Gold Hill and a livestock shelter has also been set up at the Jackson County Expo.

At around 8 p.m. Governor Kate Brown declared the fire a conflagration.


JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. – Crews are trying to put out a fire burning near Gold Hill.

At about 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, the Oregon Department of Forestry said they’re working on a 20-acre wildfire off Ramsey Canyon Road.

Ground and aerial resources were rapidly deployed to fight the fast-moving fire.

By 5:00 p.m. the Oregon Department of Forestry said the slow-growing fire was about 100 acres.

“Local ODF crews will be working through the night to aggressively and directly battle the fire,” ODF said. “Structural partners from the Rogue Valley Fire Chiefs Association will be doing property assessments for structural protection in the area.”
