Woman drowns in Rogue River rafting accident

0815 riverJackson County, Ore. — An Eagle Point woman who was in a rafting accident on the Rogue River has died.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was called near Elk Creek Campground around 2:00 Sunday afternoon.

Deputies said  57-year-old Janet Della Rosa had gotten out of the raft to free it from a sand bar, when she was swept away by the current.

Police said bystanders found Della Rosa 500 yards downriver and started CPR. Emergency crews eventually transported her to a local hospital in critical condition.

After numerous efforts to revive her, deputies said Della Rosa passed away at the hospital late last night.

The medical examiner has ruled her death an accidental drowning
