Woman paralyzed after fall from cliff

Medford, Ore. — A Rogue Valley woman remains in critical condition, after falling from a cliff. The accident happened early Saturday morning in Prospect.

The wife, and mother of four is now paralyzed from the waist down and faces a long road to recovery, but her husband is thankful she’s still fighting.

“The fact that she’s still with us is everything, she’s my life,” Nick Savage says.

Nick and Maranda Savage’s love story began when they were just kids. In their 14 years of marriage they’ve seen their share of tough times, but this next chapter will be their most trying.

“She broke her back, and severed her spinal column completely, she also broke some ribs, punctured a lung which deflated.”

Nick says his wife was at a campfire with friends Friday night when they decided to drive up Flounce Rock Road to a cell tower for the view. He says Maranda got out of the truck to use the bathroom, when she slipped and fell 70 feet below.

“Her friend Jen, who was also in the accident tried to move the truck that they were in so that they could shine light down to where Maranda was, and from what I understand the vehicle died and went straight off the cliff another 80 feet.”

A 3 and a half hour rescue ensued with crews from Prospect and Fire Ddistrict 3 assisting. It then took 2 hours to get Maranda to Rogue Regional Medical Center where she was rushed into emergency surgery.

She’s still unaware of the extent of her injuries, and heavily sedated, meanwhile her 4 children are learning a little more each day. Nick too is still coming to terms with this new reality, but he has faith she’ll pull through.

“If anybody can do this, if anybody can make it through this, Maranda can.”

Nick says he’s thankful for the first responders who risked their lives to pull Maranda from the ravine. He is now looking for a new vehicle and a new place to live to accommodate a wheelchair. A gofundme page has been set up by the family, click HERE for more information.
