Medford, Ore. — A historic 1930’s theatre being renovated in downtown Medford will be wheelchair accessible when it re-opens. The Holly Theatre showed it’s last movie in 1986 and has been closed ever since. A project is underway to restore it to it’s original state, with a few 21st century upgrades too. That means bringing the building up to American Disabilities Act standards, which Asante is sponsoring.
“Our architects had a hard time figuring out how to maneuver all of that and make it work in the footprint of this building as it exists today,” Executive Director Randy McKay says, “but i think they’ve done a phenomenal job of making it really easy to come and enjoy the Holly Theatre.”
Asante spokesperson, Lauren Van Sickle adds, “To be able to be a part of bringing it back to life, and make it a really vital part of this community is outstanding.”
The entire restoration is a $4.3-million endeavor, but when it’s finished, it will be the largest indoor venue in Southern Oregon. For more information on the restoration project, free tours of the facility, or to donate click HERE.
