Escaped Washington state jail inmate arrested in Illinois

0607 Clark County inmateVancouver, Wash. – A Portland man who escaped Washington State’s Clark County Jail by switching identities with another inmate is once again behind bars.

According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, 30-year-old Michael Diontae Johnson escaped the jail in May of 2016 by swapping I.D.s with another inmate who was scheduled to be released.

Portland NBC affiliate KGW reported that Johnson was captured by U.S. Marshals in Illinois.

Clark County Sheriff Chuck Atkins said in a news release, “I’m extremely grateful to the federal and local law enforcement officers, both here and in Illinois, who worked so hard to locate and apprehend Johnson.”
