Babysitter charged in Ore. City infant’s shaking death

Oregon City, Ore. — (KGW) An Oregon City woman has been accused of killing an infant she was babysitting.

Sarah Elizabeth Martin, 37, was arrested Wednesday on charges of manslaughter in the death of 7-month-old Izaak Gillen.

Izaak was injured on April 6 at Martin’s house and brought to Randall Children’s Hospital, where doctors discovered Izaak’s skull was fractured. He died the next day.

Court documents KGW received Thursday morning list the cause of death as a “closed head injury.”

“Sarah was the only adult watching Izaak Gillen that day,” the probable cause affidavit reads. “Sarah caused the death of Izaak by violently shaking him.”

Police initially said the death was a homicide, but did not pinpoint Martin as a suspect for nearly a month.
