June employment numbers on the rise

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC) – New numbers show payroll growth rebounded sharply in June.

The labor department reports that the U.S. economy added 224,000 jobs last month beating expectations of 150,000.

The robust hiring pace has brought Americans off the sidelines and into the workforce at the highest rate since 1969.

The unemployment rate ticked up slightly from 3.6% to 3.7%.

Payroll gains for may were revised down to 72,000 from 75,000.
