Central Point, Ore. — A man and a woman are in the Jackson County Jail tonight after a chase with sheriff deputies that ended in a Central Point family’s home.
A woman who lives on South 2nd Ave. said she and a friend were barbecuing in the backyard Sunday evening when a man jumped over her fence and ran through her backdoor, begging for a place to hide. The woman wouldn’t give her name for fear of retaliation.
“You’re so helpless how are you going to force someone you don’t know to leave your house” the resident said.
Deputies said it started just after 7:00 Sunday near Gold Hill. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said they got a call about a suspect pointing a shotgun at another vehicle on Old Stage Road. When deputies got there the driver sped off.
Deputies and troopers stopped the car with a pit maneuver near South Haskell and Cheney Loop in Central Point and arrested 24 year-old Brandy Johnson from Medford. But deputies said 29 year-old Ty Nunes, from Grants Pass, ran.
Deputies said Nunes barricaded himself in the family’s home, while the woman, her two kids, and husband watched from the neighbors.
“You worry about someone breaking in at night, but just walking in the door Just walking by like nothing’s going on” The woman said.
No one was hurt in the standoff, but the woman said her and her family are thinking about moving out.
“It’s just really hard because you know, you don’t feel safe anymore,” said the woman.
Deputies said they found over an ounce of meth in the suspect’s car, but there was no shotgun. Nunes, who had outstanding warrants, now faces drug, trespassing, and criminal mischief charges. Johnson is charged with possession as well.
