Hamburg, Cal.- The Gap Fire in northern California has grown to 23,896 acres and is once again forcing mandatory evacuations. The flames are 25 percent contained.
Overnight, firefighters resumed working the northern perimeter and will monitor the fire as it continues to back down along Mill Creek Ridge.
Fire activity increased along the Highway 96 corridor Saturday afternoon, and multiple spot fires were discovered on the north side of the river. Sunday morning, firefighters patrolled Highway 96 and prepped structures in the area as the fire continued to back down to the river.
Due to rapid increase in fire activity near the Klamath River, there are now mandatory evacuations for both sides of Highway 96 between Scott River Road and Walker Gulch including Hamburg.
