SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. – A suspect wanted in connection with a northern California murder is now behind bars in Medford.
On the evening of February 7, a utility worker found a man’s body at the bottom of an embankment in the South County area of Siskiyou County. The body was later identified as 31-year-old Hunter Simms of Sugarland, Texas.
On February 12, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office announced a suspect was arrested last Friday evening in connection with the death of Simms, 41-year-old Eddie Samuel Dodge of Anderson, California.
Dodge is currently in the Jackson County Jail awaiting extradition to Siskiyou County.
Sheriff Jon Lopey, “I would like to take this opportunity to commend the exemplary investigative work of the involved deputies, SCSO’s MCU, and the excellent support we received from other agencies such as the OSP, MADGET, SUMIT, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (OR), and NSMIT. Our MCU detectives and forensic technician worked around the clock to analyze evidence, coordinate and follow-up leads from different counties and states, and the team contacted and synchronized the efforts of a variety of law enforcement agencies in Oregon and California. Additional support at the crime scene was received from the Mt. Shasta’s CHP Area and the CHP Northern Division’s Air Operations Unit. Siskiyou County Roads assisted with a lengthy road closure during the investigation. This case is still under investigation and a lot of work has to be done.
