Avalanches on Santiam Pass

Update (12/14/16 5:45 p.m.) — Oregon State Police said the Highway 20 has been re-opened.


Santiam Pass, Ore. – Both lanes of Highway 20 were closed after an avalanche covered the roadway in snow 2 miles west of Santiam Pass summit Thursday afternoon, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

ODOT is trying to clear the roadway near the Hoodoo ski area using heavy equipment.

Oregon State Police said a second avalanche occurred shortly after the first.

Police said there were no known injuries in the avalanches.
