City council considers extending MURA

Medford, Ore. — The Medford Urban Renewal Agency, or MURA, is hoping to get an influx of cash to work on projects again in the city.

Medford’s City Council, whose members make up the MURA board, is looking into whether it makes sense to extend MURA.

The board has handed out tens of millions of dollars, but blight in the Beatty-Manzanita area is a concern.

“I feel rather embarrassed we didn’t put more money into the Beatty-Manzanita area, which was one of the prime reasons the former city council was able to justify having MURA,” said Councilmember Dick Gordon.

According to the city finance department, MURA has spent $67.3 million on projects like park improvements and remodeling businesses.
