Flames threaten historic Hearst Castle

NC_hearstcastlefire0822_1500x845San Simeon. Calif. (KSBY) — Crews are working to protect California’s historic Hearst Castle from the approaching “Chimney” wildfire.

State Parks Supervising Ranger Rob Chambers said on Sunday afternoon that the fire was two-and-a-half miles from the property line.

All tours were cancelled for Sunday and Monday.

Inside the mansion, art is staying in place. The collections and curating staff and museum director are confident it is safe, Chambers said, adding that Hearst Castle is made up of very thick concrete and reinforced steel rebar.
