Medford, Ore — According to Court Documents, 25-year-old Grant Stutzman of Grants Pass was arrested earlier this month for Official Misconduct in the First Degree and Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree following an incident or incidents involving a girl under the age of 18.
The charge of third degree sexual abuse mentioned in the documents includes “unlawfully and knowingly subject [the victim], a person under 18 years of age, to sexual contact by touching her lips or mouth, a sexual or intimate part of [the victim]”. It’s not made clear what kind of contact occurred.
Stutzman is mentioned as a teacher in the documents but the Medford School District says he was never a teacher, instead he was a volunteer at North Medford High School.
The following is a statement from the Medford School District:
The district is cooperating with the Medford Police Department in its investigation of Grant Stutzman. Mr. Stutzman is not, and has never been, an employee of the Medford School District but was approved as a volunteer in February 2016. All of our volunteers undergo criminal background checks, which Mr. Stutzman passed. The Medford School District has thousands of active volunteers every year who are important partners in helping our students succeed, and we appreciate their dedication. We do not tolerate the type of behavior alleged in this case, or any behavior that puts students at risk. Beyond the background check, all of our volunteers are required to read our volunteer handbook and school board policies prohibiting dangerous and illegal behaviors.
Any members of the community with additional information regarding Mr. Stutzman are encouraged to contact the Medford Police Department directly at 541-770-4783.
