Hot temps prompt warnings from law enforcement

Medford, Ore. — Summer is quickly approaching, but the hot weather is already here. The Rogue Valley may even be in the triple-digits this weekend.

That’s why Medford Police are issuing a reminder to everyone to make sure kids and pets aren’t left in hot cars. Officers say you can face a hefty fine, and even jail time over the issue.

Medford Police Lieutenant Kerry Curtis said, “Temperatures inside a car, especially in the heat right now can escalate rather quickly, those temperatures are unsafe for animals, unsafe for children, unsafe for anybody.”

Medford Police say if you see a child or a dog left in a car, call 911 immediately, and ask the nearest business to make an emergency announcement.
