Hunter accidentally shoots two kids

1031-casingsLinn County, Ore. — Two young children are recovering today after their father accidentally shot them during a hunting trip. The two injured kids are ages two and four.

According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the father says he thought he saw a deer so he got out of his vehicle to pursue it.

He says as he was returning to his vehicle when his loaded gun accidentally fired, striking both children in the legs. A 6-year-old child along with another adult inside the vehicle were not injured.

“When he came back to the vehicle, he accidentally discharged his rifle and it entered the vehicle. A bullet entered and hit both the 2-year-old and the 4-year-old,” said Linn County Sherrif’s Lieutenant Michelle Duncan.

His 2-year-old son suffered a broken leg just above his ankle. His four year old daughter was struck in the left shin with metal fragments from the same bullet.

The sheriff’s office says the dad is fully cooperating in the case.
