The Sweet Home Police Department says that crews responded to reports of a structure fire on the 2300 block of Main Street in Sweet Home, Oregon. Upon arrival, crews determined an apartment unit was on fire, and immediately began evacuating residents from neighboring apartments.
Police say that after the fire was extinguished, a deceased woman was found in the burned apartment. The woman was identified as 70-year-old Romana Sue Schrock.
According to officers, an investigation determined that the source of the fire was a cooking stove in the apartment, which was found in the “on” position.
