(NBC News) The freezing wicked weather of March took its toll, and now is taking the heat for the month’s slow job growth.
Employers added just 126-thousand jobs in March, snapping a year-long streak of monthly gains of over 200-thousand.
The president said he hopes to work with Congress on more job creation.
The unemployment rate remained flat.
Fewer people were hired in several industries, including construction, manufacturing and restaurants.
Wage growth increased modestly, which was tough on the middle class.
Economists are hopeful hiring will jump in the months to come and say job postings on various websites are flooded with open positions.
While major employers like McDonald’s and Wal-Mart have announced raises for their employees, that has yet to ignite consumer spending.
Despite this report, the White House is quick to point out that over 3-million new jobs have been created over the past year.
