They are activities like art, music, and even field trips. Due to recent budget cuts they have been eliminated from many of our public schools across Southern Oregon and Northern California.
“The YES project came at a perfect time because our schools are hurting. Extracurricular activities are the types of things that get cut in an economy like this,” said Scott Perry, Superintendent of Southern Oregon Education System.
NBC 5’s “YES” program is teaming together with local businesses collecting money to help schools support the extras that make children want to come to school.
“One day out of the month a business would give a portion of their sales into the “YES” program,” said Bob Wise, Vice President and General Manager of KOBI-TV.
One of the participating businesses is Dutch Bros.Every third Wednesday of the month for a total of twelve months, Jackson County Dutch Bros. locations will donate all of their net proceeds to the “YES” project.
“I am a parent myself. I have twins in the third grade and the extracurricular stuff is important to me as a parent. I think everybody should have that opportunity,” said Ty Sullivan, franchise owner of Jackson County Dutch Bros.
So if you want to be a part of “YES” simply look for the logo on local businesses. When you spend money, a portion will go to help out local students.
