Car hits elderly man on electric scooter on highway 140

White City, Ore. – An elderly man on an electric scooter was hit by a car while he was attempting to cross Highway 140 near Lakeview drive on Friday. The man was taken to an area hospital. While the extent of his injuries aren’t clear, Oregon State Troopers on scene say they didn’t appear to be serious.

Troopers say the car was traveling west on Highway 140 around 1 PM, when the scooter began to cross the road. Authorities say the driver slowed down to 10 – 15 miles per hour, before she hit the man.

“The subject on the wheelchair was thrown up in the air a certain distance, and then the wheelchair, obviously, ended up going up onto the shoulder,” Sergeant David Beck said, a State Trooper.

The woman in the car is not being charged with anything. Highway 140 was closed for a brief period, before being reopened to traffic around 1:30 PM. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control.
