Medford, Ore. — A Phoenix High School student who beat cancer was recognized in Medford on Thursday for helping other children battling life-threatening illnesses.
16-year-old Chloe Staten was dropped off in a stretch limo at the Spring Hill Suites by Marriott in Medford, thanks to the Children’s Miracle Network.
The non-profit named Staten this year’s Oregon Champion Child for visiting sick kids in the pediatric department of Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, as well as inspiring and encouraging them to keep fighting.
“I feel like if I didn’t give back, some kids wouldn’t know what’s the next turn and that there is a bright side for their story,” said Staten.
People who were honored in the past were also in attendance.
Staten was diagnosed with soft tissue cancer back in 2008.
She plans to start her own non-profit organization to continue helping other children.
