Cost Analysis For Safer Schools In Eagle Point

Allen Barber with the Eagle Point School District gave the weapon safety committeea peak at how much a safer school could cost.

“Anything from bullet proof glass to one way glass coverings, single point of entry, things like that,” says Barber.

It’s the fourth meeting with committee members talking about arming teachers and other safety measures.

This after the sandy hook school shooting in Connecticut left Eagle Point wanting to prepare for the worst.

“You never know whats going to happen in our public communities anymore and unfortunately we need to do things that are going to protect our kids and I want to make sure that the schools in eagle point are well protect,” says parent Terri marks.

Marks says he joined the safety committee because he wants to see changes.

“I’m looking forward to some hard figures as how much different items are going to cost but I’m really happy that we’re taking steps to make our schools more secure.”

Barber says they’re aiming for a school like Shady Cove School,it has a buzz in entry system which keeps out criminals but doesn’t come cheap.

“To put in a security system like what we have at Shady Cove in all ten of our schools it would cost about two million dollars.”
