Homeless shelters geared up for freezing temperatures

Medford, Ore. — As the temperatures dip below freezing Medford Gospel Mission and St. Vincent De Paul said they’re doing whatever they can to make sure everyone has a warm place to sleep.

Director of Medford Gospel Mission, Bill Gourley, said they have room for people in both their men and women’s shelters. They also provide a “safety net” when temperatures drop to 32 degrees and below. This allows people who aren’t eligible to live in the shelter to still spend the night inside.

Gourley said they had a handful of people stay last night and as he expects to see more new faces as the week goes on. In order for men to stay under “safety net” they must check in by 9:00 p.m. Women must check in by 8:30 p.m.

St. Vincent De Paul’s shelter is full but they have supplies for people who need them. You can pick up heavy coats, sleeping bags, tents and blankets at their location on N. Pacific Highway.
