Jackson County looking to make Route 66 a state scenic bikeway

Ashland, Ore. — Southern Oregon is set to become more of a tourist destination for cyclists across the state and country.

Jackson County is working to add Route 66, commonly known as Dead Indian Memorial Road as a state scenic bikeway.

While popular already among local riders, county leaders hope to increase tourism along road.

Jenna Stanke, Jackson County Roads and Parks,”This would be the first scenic bikeway south of Cottage Grove so we’d be capitalizing on these potential dollars, they advertise these rides all over including in Times Square.”

Project sponsors got the green light Thursday, March 26th, from county commissioners to add signage as they move forward in finalizing the route.

That’s expected to be complete before the end of summer.
