Jackson County Sheriff’s Office: 14 pursuits in 30 days

Central Point, Ore. – Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office have had 14 pursuit cases in the past month, nearly one every day.

Nathan Sickler, Captain of the patrol division, says the recent uptick is startling. However, he says there’s no one reason why people are running from police more.

“There’s a lot of crimes associated with these eludes, we’ve had everything from DUI’s to stolen vehicles, to drug offenses, weapon offenses, to robbery and shootings,” Captain Sickler said. “We prefer to have it a little quieter.”

Pursuits are often called off due to safety risks to the public, and some agencies have policies against pursuits for that very reason.
