Klamath county schools get budget boost

Smaller class sizes, and more sports…results of a ‘budget boost’ to Klamath County schools.

Klamath County Schools Superintendent Greg Thede says the proposed 2014-15 budget includes nearly 2 and a half million dollars more than last year’s 52 million dollar budget…

“Which includes restoring or adding 16 teaching positions throughout the district.”

Those restored teaching positions will help to reduce class sizes.

Thede adds that more money from the state will also be used for textbooks, and technology upgrades…

“Also there’s some money in there to restore some middle school sports that were cut several years ago.”

Many of those cuts were made 5 years ago, when the district budget took a hit of nearly 6 million dollars.

“We’re still not back at the level of funding that we had 10 years ago.” Notes Superintendent Thede. “But it’s certainly a step in the right direction.”

The proposed budget goes before the Klamath County School Board on Thursday.
