Marijuana infused candy a concern this Halloween

Ashland, Ore.– Lollipops, truffles, wafers area trick-or-treaters dream. But this Halloween season some candies are different and potentially dangerous.

“Most medical use tincture or oil.”

Tincture or oil containing marijuana. Michael Welch plans to sell them to medical marijuana patients when he opens next week. But pot candy is a concern now. Especially in Washington and Colorado where marijuana is legal for recreational use.

And with dispensaries now legal in Oregon, Medford police are warning parents tomake sure all candy kids eat after trick-or-treating comes in a sealed package.

“I just always check the wrappers make sure that they’re closed make sure they’re not home made before I give it to them,” said Medford resident Amanda Schram.

And Welch said it’s up to parents who are also patients to make sure their marijuana laced candies don’t get in the wrong hands.

“If parents are in a position that they have edibles they have to be responsible,” said Welch.

In Oregon, in order to sell edible marijuana product dispensaries need to have the item labeled with a visible warning sign and the amount of marijuana in them.
