Missing man found dead in rural Jackson County

Jackson County, Ore. — A missing man was found dead in a remote area of Jackson County.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday a man and his brother found the body of Medford man, Eric Jonathan Meyer on the 1035 Road and the 350 Spur Road outside Jacksonville.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Phil Cicero, Meyer took his own life.

Cicero said he responds to many suicides these days.

“We are experiencing more mental health issues than we have in years past and we’re getting a lot of calls for service for people who are feeling suicidal or depressed and for the mental health issues and we’re also getting more completed suicides,” said Cicero.

Cicero said 20 years ago there used to be maybe one call a week for a suicide. Now he said deputies respond to a call for a possible suicide every shift.
