New Ashland restaurants bring in tourists

Ashland, Ore.– Four restaurants have opened in the last four months. The Ashland Chamber of Commerce said it’s been a booming summer with tourism.

Friday Brickroom, opened it’s doors for the firs time to the public. Taking over the space where an Ashland staple used to be, Alex’s.

“We feel very lucky and excited about the opportunity to take over the space. This building has been at the center of our community for 150 years,” said owner, Eli Katkin.

Back in January Alex’s in the plaza closed due to financial problems, Katkin started working on Brickroom in February.

“Our goal was to create a place that the community can come and gather that’s been the overlying inspiration for us.”

Katharine Flanagan with the Ashland Chamber of Commerce said, “It’s unique to have so many open up I mean when they say whats new in Ashland..gosh we have a list of 10 things long that are new.”

On the north end of Main Street another restaurant, Home State BBQ, inspired by Colorado cooking.

“We wanted to bring something different to the community that represents us and represents what we’re into,” said owner, Christian Canady.

A short walk from Brickroom, Granite Taphouse. And where Chateaulin used to be now stands Harvey’s Place. Next door, Martolli’s Pizzeria. The owners there said they’ll beopening up a second place where the former Giseppi’s used to be.

A restaurant revival in a town already known for it’s sights, theater and good eats.

The owner of Brickroom said they will have live music but not as often as Alex’s did.
