No deal; Medford teachers and the district to resume talks Tuesday

Medford, Ore. — Any sense of optimism in ending the Medford teachers strike, ended Thursday.

After another day of negotiating, both sides were not able to find common ground.

The district says they prepared 4.5 million dollar offer on the table, Thursday, in early retirement benefits that would be pro-rated over 29 years.

“The momentum that we received yesterday, appears to have dissipated,” said Dr. Phil Long, Superintendent of Medford Schools.

They Medford Education Association had come back with an offer that was $60,000 off from the district’s offer.

“The district is so focused on getting a 3 year contract, it is missing an opportunity to settle,” said Cheryl Lashley, President of the Medford Education Association.
