Oregon Gulch Fire burns more than 31,000 acres

Jackson County, Ore. — The Oregon Gulch fire,25 miles southeast of Ashland,it has burned 31,918 acres since it began earlier this week.

It is 5 percent contained. Firefighters are working not only to put flames out.. but to keep them from spreading by removing vegetation.

Krystal Orozco, a firefighter, “Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of dead fuel in here, and so what we went ahead and did here today was clear this area out,limb out the trees,making sure we don’t get any torching or anything up into the trees.”

Yesterday, Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber ordered a conflagration for the blaze.

Allowing the state fire marshal to mobilize crews from other parts of the state.

Today California Governor Jerry Brown declare a state of emergency because of the fast moving wildfire.
